What is lantern House?

Lantern House is here when you know it’s time to turn aside and take time without interruption or distraction,

but you or your team just can’t....

  • find a nearby and warm place to just think, stare at the wall, breathe, be anonymous for a day (or two).

  • find a quiet desk or table to finish that essay, sermon, project, drawing.

  • find a piano only keyboard, with all the octaves and no gimmicks, to just practice that piece of music.

  • find a simple hearth to listen to music, the radio, read, watch the telly.

  • to pray the Prayer Offices with someone.

  • find neutral ground and guidance to create and shape your hopes and dreams.

Who is Lantern House for?

Lantern House is based in the Diocese of Worcester and open for those over the age of 18 and, subject to all safeguarding and DBS checks necessary for their role:

Clergy - active, retired, stipendiary, self supporting, chaplains

Ordinands and their supervisors

Staff of Bishop’s Palace and Diocesan Office

Cathedral Dean and Chapter, Vergers, Cathedral Choir and Chamber Choir

 LLMs and ALMs

Church wardens

Church Youth Workers 

 Oblates, Associates and friends of recognised Christian religious communities

Spiritual Directors, Accompaniers, Supervisors, those on the Training Course provided by the Bishop of Worcester’s Spirituality Network.

Although Lantern House is not a Worcester Diocesan initiative Lantern House has been through the diocesan safeguarding lens and has been found to be safe in its practices.



Who runs this?

Julieann Watson

Julieann trained as a Spiritual Director / Accompanier during 2007 – 2009 and has practised and developed this ministry throughout her time to the present. She is on the Bishop’s Register for Spiritual Directors.

After postgraduate study in Theology for Ministry and full time ordination training at Westcott House Cambridge, Julieann was ordained priest in the Diocese of Worcester in 2012 where she served her curacy and incumbency to 2022.

After a time with Permission to Officiate in Upton upon Severn ( Hope Church Family) and the Severnside Parishes, Julieann now lives and serves in the Parish of Barbourne St Stephen. She is a widow with family in Bristol as well as Australia, New Zealand and America. Her interests include singing with a local West Gallery Folk Group and her tropical aquarium. She loves the Severn and likes to walk and live near it.
